Baileys Marsh was a swampy area over at Bois D'Ark. Its on Highway 19 between Palestine and Athens. That's where we lived when I went into the Army. I was home on leave and went coon hunting..

with Daddy. The dogs treed up a tall sweet gum tree in Baileys Marsh. I climbed the tree up about forty foot and shook a three quarters grown coon out. Daddy wanted to keep the coon to use for training puppies and so he let the dogs rag him around for a while before he reached down and grabbed at the coon's tail and called out that he had him. He let out a loud scream and hollered NO HE'S GOT ME! As it turned out the ornery critter had attached himself to the end of one of Daddy's fingers. He tried to shake him off and to fling him off but the coon only moved from finger to finger until finally when he ran out of fingers he hit the ground again. Daddy was in no mood to keep the coon anymore and so he let the dogs have him. The coon ended up dead and Daddy ended up with all his finger nails split. We started walking back to the house or so we thought. After about and hour of walking circles in the swamp we got up on high ground and waited until daylight. We came out about twenty nine yards from where we should have come out.
